In honor of the memory of Friedrich von Metzler

Friedrich von Metzler
Friedrich von Metzler

Friedrich von Metzler, the former head of our group, passed away on November 17th at the age of 81. We would like to express our deepest gratitude for the kindness and support he showed us during his lifetime, and respectfully inform you of his passing.

For over 50 years, Friedrich von Metzler led the Bank with integrity and entrepreneurial spirit, and made a significant contribution to its success. He was also a dedicated philanthropist, widely known and respected in Germany and abroad, both within and outside the financial industry. His tireless social contributions and entrepreneurial vision have left a lasting impression on people's hearts.

Friedrich von Metzler, who was born in Dresden, Germany, in 1943, returned to Frankfurt with his family after the war. After graduating from high school in 1962, he worked in international capital markets at overseas banks, and in 1969 he joined Metzler Bank Bank in 1969, and was appointed as a personally liable partner in 1971. As the German capital market business also picked up steam from the 1970s onwards, under his leadership, Metzler Bank was able to apply its traditional expertise and grow rapidly alongside the market.

In 2018, he transferred the management rights of the bank to his children, and today Friedrich von Metzler's children Elena and Franz each own approximately 40% of the shares, and Christoph's son, Leonard von Metzler, owns 20%. Even after the transfer of management rights, Friedrich von Metzler continued to maintain close ties with the bank. He energetically visited customers and promoted shares as a form of capital investment. It was important for him to help the general public understand the benefits of shares in planning their retirement.

He also continued the tradition of social commitment in his hometown of Frankfurt am Main with joy and responsibility. In 1998, he established the Albert and Barbara von Metzler Foundation, which focuses on projects for children and young people. He also held many other positions, including those at the Senckenberg Foundation and the Frankfurt Municipal Hospital Association, and he was active in contributing to society. His volunteer activities also influenced the employees of the bank, and since then, the Metzler family and the bank have been equally involved in a wide range of activities in the fields of art, culture, science and research.

Friedrich von Metzler received numerous honors for his social commitment. He was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, First Class, and in 2004 he was named an honorary citizen of Frankfurt am Main. His legacy and spirit of social commitment will live on in the work of the Bank for many years to come.
